3. FINDING CONTENT

How do I find stories?

You have three ways to search for stories:

  1. Search by keyword with the search bar at the top of each page.
  2. Check the News Service Stories section of the site, where the latest stories are available.
  3. Check the weekly Budget, which gives you a selection of the best stories that were posted that week. The budget is organized by subject, i.e., News, Sports, Entertainment.

Here is an example of a budget line:

To build relationships: Work hard, listen well
    RELATE-LISTEN:CS
    700 by Carolyn Click. MOVED
    TEXT | HTML | PHOTO | GRAPHIC

The budget line offers the following information:

The slug, which in this example is RELATE-LISTEN:CS. If the story has not moved, the slug will not be a link. If the story has moved, the slug will either link to a story page that can be saved as a Microsoft Word document or a Web page, or the slug will link to a search page that has a list of stories. The first item on the list will be the most recent version of the story.

The word count, which in this example precedes the byline in "700 by Carolyn Click."

The word MOVED, if present, indicates that the story has moved and is available. If the story has not moved, the budget line will include "Story moving later." Check the budget later to see if the story has moved.

A TEXT link, which opens an ASCII text file that can be saved.

An HTML link, which opens a page that can be saved as a Microsoft Word document or a Web page.

Links such as GRAPHIC, PHOTO, ILLUSTRATION and CARICATURE, if present, link to a search page from which this art can be downloaded.

How do I find visuals?

You have a couple of ways to search for visuals on Campus:

  1. Search by keyword with the search bar at the top of each page. In the search drop-down, select “Photos” and “Graphics”
  2. On the homepage click “Photos” and “Graphics”

4. QUESTIONS ABOUT DOWNLOADING

How do I download illustrations?

Illustrations are in .jpg format. They may be opened by any application that supports standard .jpg images. The captions may be viewed via Photoshop's File Info window.

To download an illustration or caricature, find the image on the search results page. You can either preview the image or click the "Download" link. From the "Download" link, you can save the .jpg image.

How do I download crosswords?

Campus offers two options for crossword puzzles. The Daily Crossword is a compressed file (zip), which includes six puzzles in eps, pdf, txt, InDesign and tif formats. The TV Crossword is a compressed file (zip), which includes four puzzles in eps, pdf, txt, InDesign and tif formats.

To download either package, click on "Download" and save the file to your desktop. Expand the file and open the folder to find the files you need.
